2022 Events

From Robin Hoffman – What a beautiful day! Thirty four members shined up their Porsches and came out to a special Club event beginning with a guided tour of the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum and ending with lunch on at the Space Bar! Our docents provided a personal tour of this meaningful and unique Museum. The Museum not only pays tribute to police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty but helps you understand the scope of American Policing and the dangers involved. There were exhibits on American gangsters, forensic evidence, a concealed weapons display as well as an assortment of motorcycles and various police vehicles.

After our tour we headed to the rooftop Space Bar at the Hilton Marriot. It was a delightful place to enjoy lunch, take in the beautiful view of the river along with the Kennedy Space Center. You may want bring friends to the Space Bar for a future space launch because of its super location. Photos by Robin Hoffman and Steve Tarr. Photo Link here

From Robin Hoffman– Thanks for coming out to Porsche Melbourne for a wonderful breakfast and a quick meeting about what to expect from being a member of this great club! After a drivers meeting we hit the road for a beautiful drive to Sebastian and a great lunch on the water at Captain Hirams. Let’s do it again soon! Photos taken by Robin Hoffman. Photo Link Here

New Member Social and Drive – Sept 22, 2022

From David Kelly – Twenty-one Space Coast members brought their Porsches out for display. The weather was hot and humid, but that did not dampen the enthusiasm for some Porsche fun with shade readily available to view the cars and to tell a few Porsche stories. There are always a few interesting details to see in each of the cars. Photos taken by David Kelly – Photo link here.

From David Kelly – Twenty-six Space Coast Region members came out for the Vero Beach Kaffeeklatsch on Sunday, August 14, 2022, bringing another good mix of Porsches for display, and enjoying good camaraderie with other local Porsche owners. Bright sunshine was the order of the day and it served to accentuate the brilliant colors on some of the cars. There were discussions about a modified high-horsepower 911 Turbo, a firsthand look at the newly installed A/C compressor on a “no sun-roof” Euro 911SC, and some of the color variations on a few of the cars. One of Vero Beach’s finest stopped by in his patrol car to chat and to admire all the cars on display. It was a good day with good people! There is a link below to photos of the event. (My apologies for the under and over exposure on some of the images which was due to an incorrect setting on my camera). Photos by David Kelly. Photo link here.

From David Kelly – Thirty-seven Space Coast members came out for the Vero Beach Kaffeeklatsch on Sunday, July 10, 2022, and brought a nice array of Porsche models for display.  It was a warm summer day, but that didn’t lessen anyone’s enthusiasm for checking out the cars and catching up with other members on recent Porsche Club happenings.  One couple brought two Porsches so each could have some Porsche-fun driving to and from the event.  Also, “man’s best friend” arrived as a privileged passenger in another member’s Porsche and seemed to be right at home among all the Porschephiles gathered there.  There were some interesting details to see on several of the cars.  It was a good time, with plenty of fun and lots of stories about life with Porsche cars.  Here is a link to photos of the event:

From David Kelly – Approximately thirty Space Coast Region members attended the Porsche Melbourne Tech Session on Saturday, May 14, 2022.  Porsche Melbourne was a gracious and generous host with the Porsche Melbourne staff arranging a welcome breakfast for the participants, and a prepared lunch following the session.  Chris Huck, Porsche Sales Professional, accompanied by Michael Pace, Porsche Certified Bronze Technician, led the discussion with an in-depth review of the specifications, features, and driving characteristics of the Porsche Taycan.  Chris made his beautiful Mamba Green Metallic Taycan available for the session so that everyone had a chance to examine it in great detail.  There was much discussion about Porsche battery technology, charging and range capabilities, and the capability to digitally locate network charging station access while driving.  There were SPC Region members in the audience who are also Taycan owners and they shared their positive experiences with the car.  The technology of the Taycan is impressive and the session provided a great opportunity to learn of its capabilities firsthand and to see what is in store for the future.  There is a link below to photos of the session.

From David Kelly – Twenty Space Coast members participated in the Vero Beach Kaffeeklatsch on Sunday, May 8, 2022, bringing a mix of Porsches of various models and colors.  It was an easy, casual gathering for Porsche lovers out for a day of fun.  Sunny skies and comfortable temperatures allowed for lots of discussion and the opportunity to closely inspect the cars on display.   A couple of other interesting machines arrived to share the parking lot.  Photos of them are included with photos of the event at the link below.

From Robin Hoffman – What a great turnout we had for the New Member Social at Porsche Melbourne (almost 100 people!) and 50 of us made the drive to Orlando with us to experience the Dezerland Auto Museum and Bond 007 Collection.   From the smiling faces in these photos, it was a great success.   Special THANKS to Steve Tarr for organizing the event and Porsche Melbourne for sponsoring a great breakfast, as usual,  Donna Edwards outdid herself hosting our crew!   Below is a link to the photos taken by Robin Hoffman during the event.

From David Kelly – Thirty-six Space Coast members brought their Porsches to the Vero Beach Kaffeeklatsch on Sunday, April 10, 2022.  Beautiful weather, combined with great people, and a terrific array of cars on display made the occasion fun for everyone who attended.  The bright sun showed off a rich palette of Porsche colors and models, both vintage and modern.  There were many Porsches to check out, in addition to a couple of other interesting cars at the event, with one member bringing his affectionately-termed “little Porsche,” a restored 1968 Volkswagen Beetle, while another driver brought his classic Corvette Stingray to keep the Porsches company.  Several bystanders were also interested in the cars and strolled through the display as they selected their favorite ones.  As always, there were many small details to see.  Here is a link to the photos.

From David Kelly – Five Porsches along with other German marques joined the more than 300 field of cars at the 43rd Annual Antique Car Show held at Riverside Park in Vero Beach on Saturday, March 19, 2022.  German, Italian, British, and American antique cars, along with a multitude of stock and modified muscle cars, hot-rods, and trucks drew a large crowd for the event.  If you were a fan of automobiles in any way, there was certainly something to see among the many cars on display.  From the sleek lines of the E-Jags and the 120’s to the race-ready 911S and the 944S2 Cabriolet, to that spectacular cadre of Volkswagen beetles, you could have spent enough time examining just those to almost miss the rest.  But, of course, there was more of everything.  A jaunt to the fifties, sixties, and seventies with America’s favorite Ford, GM, and Chrysler cars at their best.  Then there were the modified cars, from T-Buckets to T-Tops, chrome and patina, rat-rods, and full customs; it was all there.  Big motors, big wheels, multi-carbs, and superchargers ruled the day in that group.  But, what about those five Porsches?  They attracted a crowd of on-lookers all their own.  Here is a link to photos of the event:

From David Kelly – Warm clothing prevailed on a crisp, bright sunny day as twenty-eight SPC members brought their cars out for the Vero Beach Kaffeeklatsch on Sunday, March 13, 2022.  There was a wide range of Porsches on display, including two meticulously restored 356 Coupes, two vintage 911S’s (one active on the vintage racing circuit), a GT4, three 911 Turbo’s, a 928 and a 968, a 911SC, several Boxsters (including a 25 year Special Edition and a Boxster Spyder), along with several beautiful Cayman’s and 911’s.  There was plenty to see with lots of details and unique features on each car and the display generated significant interest from those who were just passing by and stopped to check out the cars.  Here is a link to photos of the event:

From David Kelly – Porsche people, Porsche cars, and famous Polo Players converged on Saturday, February 19, 2022 for an exciting event at the Windsor Charity Polo Cup, sponsored by Porsche Melbourne.  All proceeds from the event went to support local charities.  Convoys of Porsches driven by Space Coast members from the north and south met at the Windsor Club Polo grounds, field-side, to watch and enjoy the festivities and to participate in the “Peoples Choice” Concours as part of the event.  Porsche Melbourne staff made all the preparations and graciously hosted SPC members by serving a champagne lunch and providing shelter from the misty conditions that prevailed early in the day.  Porsche Melbourne also brought along a selection of new cars to put on display for the Charity Cup attendees to inspect.  Local merchants participated in the event by providing displays of their goods and products for Windsor residents, their guests, and our members to view and sample.

The Peoples Choice Concours drew many Windsor residents and guests to the display to admire the cars and relate their own experiences with some of their favorite Porsche cars over the years.  Winners of the Concours were a beautiful Blue 718 Cayman in 1st place, followed by a nice India Red 928 S4 in 2nd place, and an equally nice White 993 4S in 3rd place.  You can see the three winners and their cars in the event photos.  As the day progressed, the occasional sprinkles, windy and misty weather abated, and sunny skies prevailed late in the day.

The professional Polo players took the field in all conditions and the crowd was treated to some excellent polo playing highlighted by many well-known players, one of which, was Hope Arellano, a highly ranked Women’s and Mixed Polo player, known for her skill and ability to play in both tournament settings.  You’ll see Hope in action, along with the other players.  The Windsor staff, residents, and guests were welcoming and gracious in allowing the Space Coast Region to participate in the event supporting local charities, and a special thanks go to Porsche Melbourne for its ongoing help, support, and sponsorship.  Below is a link to the photos.

“Porsches & Polo” at the Windsor Charity Cup – Saturday, February 19, 2022

From David Kelly – On Saturday, February 12, 2022, members of the Space Coast Region gathered for a sporting backcountry drive to see the Larry Wilson Car Collection in Jupiter, FL. which was arranged by our good friend and professional automobile detailer, Alfred Marino (Marino Detailing – Services).  The cars were spectacular in every sense of the word, as was the venue.  The Wilson Collection staff afforded us a great welcome and were very accommodating, answering numerous questions and explaining the history and nuances of each car in the collection.

After reluctantly leaving such beautiful cars, we continued on to the Palm Beach International Raceway to see the action at Brian Redman’s “Targa Sixty-Six” event which features exotic race cars of every marque on the track as they were originally intended to be driven.  Once again, it was a great opportunity to see some unique and rare cars in the Paddock and in action on the track.  Former professional racing drivers, Brian Redman, Derek Bell, and David Hobbs, were on hand and happily answered questions about their illustrious racing careers and posed for photos with many of the visitors at the event.  No matter what automobile marque you favored, you would likely find it at Brian’s event.

There were Porsches, Ferrari’s, and BMW’s aplenty in the Paddock, along with several prototypes and other historically significant race cars.  Some great examples were the Revs Institute Collier Collection which was there with two Porsche 904 GTS’s, chassis #904-018 the 1964 Sebring 12 Hour Class winner driven by Briggs Cunningham, and chassis #904-046 which raced in the Targa Florio and at Nurburgring, and a Porsche 910/6 #910-007 which raced at Nurburgring.  The silver 904 Cunningham car, with its #37, is all original and as it was when it won at Sebring in 1964.  It was back in action again on the track at Targa Sixty-Six, courtesy of Revs Institute!  There were more examples of racing heritage around the Paddock as you will see in the photos.  Here are links to both venues:

From Robin Hoffman – Space Coast Autocross Team Kicked Off the Porsche Melbourne Sponsored 2022 series with 34 Porsche drivers competing under perfect conditions at American Muscle Car Museum today.  Tim Marshall took Fastest Time of Day with his 2009 Cayman S, followed closely by Jimmy Strater and Rick Baz while Cindy Hambidge took the top time in Ladies class. From Robin Hoffman – Despite bitter cold and drizzling rain (well, for Florida….) we had a fairly good turnout for our February KK today! Even welcomed a fellow car loving Corvette couple and Tesla to our mix! Having the Corvette there was ironic as we were supposed to have our annual Porsche vs Corvette Autocross Challenge today – It will be rescheduled in the Fall and hopefully our new friends will join in the fun! Thanks for coming out everyone!

From Robin Hoffman – Our New Member Social was a HUGE success!  We counted 74 people who came out to Porsche Melbourne Saturday morning to have a tasty breakfast of breakfast sandwiches, bagels, and fruit.  Thank you Porsche Melbourne!  New members and established members alike laughed and visited with one another and learned a bit about the club and upcoming events!  The Porsches in the PM showroom were spectacular!

We met again in Vero at the American Icon Brewery in the afternoon after a nice drive and doing some activities along the way.   We were treated to a private Porsche parking lot and upstairs dining room with excellent food and service at the American Icon Brewery.   Members seemed to enjoy their Space Coast PCA lunch boxes filled with treats and the 20 gift cards to the Brewery were an unexpected bonus for the luckiest members!  One lucky couple won the grand prize of a Growler and mugs!

Many thanks to Steve and Alice Tarr who worked to put this event together. Thanks also to Elissia and Paul Bennice who distributed MANY new badges and we now have a system to designate new members – a red dot on your badge shows others you are new to the Club and should be approached with a friendly face!  🙂

From Jeff Dorman –  Friday looked to be rain-free for the season-opening of the IMSA 2022 season.  I arrived around 9 am with the Prototype Challenge cars first on track, so I headed off to the paddock to take in the WeatherTech and Michellin Challenge entrants.    These cars were in various states or preparation for their opening sessions, coming up shortly.  I got to the International Horsehoe (Turn 3), as the Michellin Challange cars and WeatherTech series cars took to the track.  Then over to the Turn 1 high bank to capture the WeatherTech entrants, then off to the straight between the West Horseshoe (Turn 5) and the entry to the high banks to capture a variety of comings and goings.  There was a lot to take in.  I offer you over 500 images and a few short movies of both series at the tail end… if you dare!

From David Kelly – Here is a link to photos of the Vero Beach Kaffeeklatsch held on Sunday, January 09, 2022.  Thirty Space Coast Region members came out for coffee and camaraderie with their fellow Porsche owners.  It was a day for admiring Porsches of many colors and vintages, with great examples of the earliest and the very latest technology on display.  It was also an opportunity for attendees to check out some of the small details on the cars as you will see in the photos.  One of the fun challenges was to identify the two green cars and the two blue cars in the mix and name their specific Porsche colors.  Space Coast Region officers were also on hand to join in the fun and to answer any questions and discuss upcoming events.  A couple driving another beautiful vintage German car pulled in to check out the Porsches so photos of it are included as well.  It was a good day with great people and great cars!

I hope you enjoy the photos.
