From Jeff Dorman – HSR held it 2017 Historic 24 Hour race at Daytona on Nov. 11 and 12, with racing examples dating back to 1969. Saturday began in earnest with the Trans-Am Series finale for 2017, and at 1pm, after an autograph signing session with racing legends like Didier Theys and Lynn St. James, the grid was opened for the Classic 24-hour race. Racing giants like Andy Wallace, Brian Redman, Ron Fellows among others could be seen and greeted on the grid before the green flag flew.
The first group to run, featuring Group C cars, which included Porsche racing legends like the 962 and 964, the Jaguar XJR-5, March and Lotus cars, kicked off the hour-long sessions for the 6 race groups (A to F) competing every six hours for best overall times in class.
The day was windy and overcast and the competition fierce but gentlemanly. David Dowling was kind enough to share some great action photos from the race. And I have included a large number of my photos of the expansive garage area supporting the historic race cars and few pictures and videos of the cars on the grid and in action. Enjoy!
