From David Kelly: The link below will take you to photos of the 2016 “12 Hours of Sebring” Race. You’ll see pre-dawn activity in the team garages and throughout the Paddock, as well as the historic race cars on display in the Hall of Champions. You will also see the race cars parked along Pit Road before race start so that race fans can see them firsthand. There was a sizable crowd again this year.
You will get a peek at some of the monitors the race teams use to assess conditions during the race. And, you will see brief fireworks and a fly-over as the race cars come through Turn #17 onto the front straight for the official start of the 2016 “12 Hours of Sebring.”
Race conditions were very challenging this year with heavy rain coming not long after the race began which eventually led to red flag conditions, stopping the race for a period of more than two hours, during which time crews worked to clear the track of standing water. The race was restarted with the drivers continuing to deal with lingering issues with standing water until track conditions improved.
Our PCA members were dedicated as well, with many viewing the race from the comfort of the Porscheplatz, while others braved the weather to see the race action firsthand from their seats in the open Porsche Club grandstand.
The rain and overcast skies, as well as the early pre-dawn activity in the team garages presented photographic challenges this year as well. Hopefully, you’ll find some photos which interest you, and also which may help to portray the feeling of actually being there. It’s best to view them individually in full screen mode.
I hope that you enjoy them.
