From Robin Hoffman – The clouds on August 9th looked a little dark, but 16 Porsches made their way to the old Policicchio Groves Citrus Retail Storefront in Merritt Island to start our Poker Drive. Ed and Kara Springer opened their place up for us, and we all enjoyed some refreshments before we started off on our 70-mile drive and quest to get the best 5-card poker hand.
The drive took us to the Enchanted Forest, Fort Christmas, and F. Burton Smith Park. Final stop was Kay’s BBQ in Cocoa for lunch.
At Kay’s our participants got to pick their final cards…. if they were close to a winning hand, they had the opportunity to buy up to 2 additional cards. It was much fun and in the end, we raised $400 for Toys for Tots.
Denise Farias, the coordinator for North Brevard Toys for Tots spoke about the program and a few of our members are going to be volunteering with her crew this winter for this worthy cause.
Thank you to all who came out to play and everyone who helped make the event happen…. and thank you to Mother Nature for keeping the rain in the clouds until we arrived home!
