From Elaine Christine – Our first big charity event of the year was our Porsches & Putters Golf Tournament which followed a scramble format and a fun-filled Caddyshack theme. The Multi-Region Event with Florida Citrus Region was held on Saturday, May 6th at the Cocoa Beach Country Club. Huge thanks to Shay Rowe and Porsche of Melbourne for giving all our golfers a chance on #2 River Hole to win a 2017 Porsche Boxster! Unfortunately, no one went home with the Porsche, but we all got to have a photo taken with the beauty!
Following the Tournament, we had lunch at the 19th Hole Restaurant, an awards ceremony, and a Tech Quiz with a Caddyshack tie-breaker. Congratulations to Dan Plate, who won the Tech Quiz and a brand new golf bag compliments of Jack & Lois Roberts at Brown & Bigelow!
We would like to acknowledge and thank PCA National for sponsoring lunch for this Multi-Region Event. We also wish to acknowledge hole sponsors Scott & Sue Kee, Ken Marshall of Glover Oil Company Inc., Roger Aumuller of Movement Mortgage, LLC and Jason Breitfeller of BreitWerks.
Proceeds from Porsches & Putters will support the Brevard Schools Foundation (http://brevardschoolsfoundation.org), which invests in young minds and fills educational funding and opportunity gaps. Executive Director Janice Kershaw shared their mission and vision to positively impact 73,000 children and 5,000 teachers in Brevard County. Janice introduced Valerie Kelly, a certified mindful educator at Manatee Elementary who said the generosity of the Porsche Club in raising $1,000 for her program will impact 500 children.
Recently, the National Center for Education Statistics reported over 50 million students attend public schools. That’s a lot of children and a huge opportunity to empower the next generation!
