From Robin Hoffman – The Porsche 356 Florida Owner’s Group, or FOG, held its 2023 Gathering of the Faithful in Melbourne Feb 9-12th. Over sixty Porsche 356s were in attendance. These photos are highlighting the fun we had and the beautiful cars over the 4 days in chorological order. Thursday: Arrival to the Hilton and a welcome reception with a Tech Quiz thrown in for some controversy!
Friday we drove to the Warbird Museum and had a Pizza lunch among the planes after a few photo ops. Porsche Melbourne sponsored a dinner and cocktail party at the dealership – complete with a band for dancing! That evening, back at the hotel, a few of our unruly members were involved in a Key Lime Pie heist!
Saturday morning brought us to a Concours at the American Muscle Car Museum in front of the museum. After a morning Concours, the AMCM’s maintenance shop was open to view, with Ed Dedick answering questions and covering how the cars in the collection are maintained.
After a break for lunch, a VIP tour was held from 1:30 to 2:30 with AMCM’s owner Mark Pieloch. Three lucky VIP guests won one of three awesome AutoGeek detailing kits. This was followed by a two-hour ice cream social, where guests could check out the entire museum. Another unique car was unveiled at this event, a 1959 Porsche 718 RSK Werks Spyder!
After a long day enjoying our cars, we gathered once again back at the Hilton for our Awards Banquet where we gave out awards to the drivers who went the most miles in 2022 – “Drive Those Cars Contest” and the winners of the People’s Choice Concour. Sunday brought the Annual Membership Meeting and a visit to 356 Unlimited to have breakfast and a look into Steve Hoffman’s restoration shop.
After threats of rain for the whole weekend – our time in Melbourne was essentially dry! Great time had by all! Thanks to everyone who helped make this event a success and everyone who helped to bring it to life!
