Exploring Museums in Stuttgart Germany

From Karl and Joyce Manke – We want to share our experience at the Porsche and Mercedes-Benz Museums and Rad Blu Hotel Porsche Design Tower. Here are some of the many, many photos we took on a recent trip to Germany.

These are 2 great auto museums in the Stuttgart area. And wonderful to combine the experience of each!   Joyce and I stayed at the Porsche Design Tower Radisson Blu hotel in Stuttgart close to the museum and factory. There is a retail Porsche dealership on the first floor adjacent to the to the hotel that is first class.

The Radisson Blu was all Porsche decor in the restaurant the lobby hallways and rooms is all Porsche memorabilia ! Claudia our guest host was fantastic as well as the other desk clerks they were all very helpful in pointing out restaurants, and public transportation to us.

We had been to the museum two times before in the early 80’s and in 1989, when the museum consisted of a few vehicles in a small, quaint garage-type area at the factory. The new museum opened January 31, 2009.  It is a state-of-the-art. Wonderful!  With approximately 95 vehicles displayed, and has many interactive exhibits.

Sabrine Lang, our Porsche guest services greeter (photo included) greeted us and gave us a detailed briefing on the layout of the museum, and how to make the most out of the visit.  The first floor has a coffee bar, and Boxstopp, a wonderful restaurant and upstairs is the high-end Christophorus Prime Rib specialty restaurant at the museum (you can Google details tickets, hours etc… – great info)

We also visited the Mercedes-Benz museum.  It’s a quick cab ride from our hotel or the Porsche Museum!

We had been to the old MB museum in the early 1980s and 1989 as well.  The old museum then was a lot smaller.

The new MB museum was built in 2006 and is a state-of-the-art museum like the Porsche museum.   There are approximately 160 vehicles on display. (Google for detailed info tickets etc.)

Unfortunately, the Porsche factory tours were completely booked months out, so we missed out this time on the tour.

We enjoyed both of these museums, as well as the great restaurants in the area.
