Autocross Challenge results by Tom Gorsuch

It was a very close competition today. We’re waiting for the final verified results but as we closed down the scoring at the venue it appears hat Citrus beat us by one position. We had three people (Dave, Cheryl, and John) within 0.5 seconds of the next position and any one of them could have pulled it out all the way to the last run of the day. Another almost scenario is if we would have had just one more hot-shoe show up. Still we had just as many there today as Citrus so the odds were good. Andre drove phenomenally to win the very competitive Cayman class by almost a full second. Mike Masters also had a blazing afternoon to win the Carrera class by more than a second. I had car problems so didn’t complete all of my runs but probably couldn’t have taken the 944 class anyway. The 944 class was won by a youngster (in his 20s I’d guess) who just changed from our region to Citrus a few weeks ago. The switch had to do with them living in Deland which is an easier drive to Orlando than to Melbourne. Bert even called Citrus members to get them out of bed this morning because he saw the strong contingent we had brought. Jim West, their fastest Porsche driver wasn’t going to come because he had sold his car and was waiting on his next one to arrive. Bert begged him to come and then Rita offered that he could drive the GT3RS which he did and of course he won that class. Hats off to Citrus for pulling out all the stops to retain the trophy. We all had a great day of Porsche fun and a great effort by both regions.
